Every year we host a Paddle Award. We get amazing entries from kids of all ages telling us what paddling means to them and sharing what they have learned about the sport, including the values that are taught through outrigger canoe paddling. Check out this original musical composition from Pohaku, one of this year's winners.
"I composed an original piece of piano music that is meant to echo the feeling of paddling. It incorporates the flowing sounds of the ocean and the whoosh of paddling in unison. I made it into a video and explained how the team aspect of six-man paddling helped me embrace and embody the Hawaiian values of laulima, lōkahi, ha`a ha`a, kuleana, and `ohana. "
