"Nappy" Crosses the Kaiwi Channel for the 60th Time

Racing the Molokai Hoe once is an accomplishment but "Nappy" Napoleon has done it 60 times. At 76, Nappy is still going strong. He is a steersman which means that he rarely gets out of the canoe during the entire five or more hours of racing. Nappy is an inspiration to us all and his love for paddling and his Ohana is evident in all that he does. Congratulations Nappy for your 60th crossing!

Hundreds of paddlers took on the Kaiwi Channel today in the annual Molokai Hoe, but one paddler stood out among them.

Joseph “Nappy” Napoleon has been in 60 consecutive crossing. But for Nappy it wasn’t about how many, he has always taught that it’s about the heart and really, in the end, about love.
