This Sunday men from around the globe will gather on Molokai to prepare to race across the Kaiwi Channel. This long distance race is the culmination of months of training and is considered the world championship outrigger canoe race. The race has a rich history dating back to 1952 and has grown to be one of the biggest outrigger events in the world.

The annual Molokai to Oahu canoe race, now known as the Molokai Hoe, takes place today. The race has come a long way from its beginnings back in 1952.
