FIRST NATIONAL SUP FOIL SURFING COMPETITION IS COMING TO IMBITUBA, BRAZIL NOV. 22 THROUGH 26

This year the watersports festival Ibiraquera Wave Contest will host one of the first SUP foil surfing competitions in history in Imbituba, Brazil.

The 23rd annual competition will run from November 22 to 26  in Imbituba, Brazil, and host world-class SUP athletes from across Brazil.

The event features different aquatic modalities such as windsurfing, kitesurfing and standup paddle, and will be the final stage of the 2017 Brazilian SUP surf circuit.

Of all the attractions offered, one is drawing massive attention: the SUP foil surfing division will likely be the first national competition of this discipline in the world.

Organized by the Brazilian Standup Paddle Confederation (CBSUP), the competition will host athletes like 2012 SUP Surf World Champion Leco Sazalar.

SUP foil surfing is a sport that has grown significantly since 2016, first driven by a group of Hawaiian athletes such as Kai Lenny, Connor Baxter and Austin Kalama, and then conquering other parts of the globe.

In Brazil, the sport is rapidly gaining popularity in states like Rio Grande do Norte, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Santa Catarina.

All information about the competition as well as general rules and live broadcast can be checked on the official events website: ibiraquerawavecontest.com.br
