Most of us know Kauai as a place to paddle the NaPali coastline. We start in Hanalei and we end up in Waimea. We drive back from the end of the race and spend time with friends wherever we are staying. What we don't know is the history of this incredible island. On Kauai, history comes in as many layers as the lava that formed the island 5 million years ago. Modern efforts to peel back some of those layers have revealed a wealth of geological, biological and cultural treasures, creating a scenic South Shore itinerary that also highlights Kauai’s capacity for reinvention and renewal.
